No-Fail Bacon Sausage Gravy and Cheddar Sour Cream Biscuits

April 11, 2017

At the heart of Texas comfort foods, "biscuits and gravy" rule supreme. This is the core recipe that you'll return to time and time again. It is the best basic sausage gravy with smoky bacon and big chunks of sausage with the best balance of flavor from a little onion and garlic. That creamy rich gravy coupled with these flaky mile-high fluffy cheese sour cream biscuits will be enough to make your family and friends beg for it!

Bacon Sausage Gravy

1 lb. lean pork breakfast sausage
4 oz. crumbled bacon
½ cup minced onion
2T minced garlic
½ cup Texas Pure All Purpose flour
4 cups whole milk

In a large 12-inch by 3-inch-deep skillet cook the sausage over medium heat along with bacon, onion, and garlic. When sausage is cooked through, add the flour and cook 5-7 minutes until dark. Add milk. Stir well. Simmer 10-15 minutes, stir periodically. Serve over hot savory Garlic Biscuits.

Savory Garlic and Cheddar Sour Cream Biscuits

4 cups Texas Pure Baking Mix
1 ½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1Tbsp minced fresh garlic
2 cups sour cream

Melted butter

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients just until blended. On a lightly floured countertop, roll out dough until 1 inch thick. Cut into 12 2 inch biscuits and bake 425 10-12 minutes on a heavy sheet pan. Serve warm with melted butter if desired.
