Grandma's Rolled Sugar Cookies

December 25, 2018

Christmas morning is finally here and the presents are unwrapped. What do you do now? Grandma used to gather the kids together for baking cookies. This recipe is a long-time family favorite, frosted or plain.  Made with only the purest ingredients and rolled out with love, these are sure to be an instant holiday classic at your home as well!

Grandma's  Rolled Sugar Cookies

1 ½ cup butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

4 lg. eggs

2 tsp vanilla high-grade extract

½ tsp almond extract

½ tsp ground nutmeg

5 ½ cups  Texas Pure Milling Organic All-purpose Flour

2 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp salt

Directions: In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs, vanilla, almond and nutmeg. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and salt and mix well. Dough will be stiff.

Preheat oven to 375°F. Roll out dough on a well-floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Roll thicker for soft cookies. Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake to 8-10 minutes in preheated oven. Cool completely.

Royal Icing

1 pound (3-3/4 cups) powdered sugar, sifted if lumpy

1 to 2 large egg whites

1 tsp almond extract

Frosting: Combine the royal icing ingredients until smooth. Decorate cookies as desired.
